Installing ssl on a WordPress Domain

I recently purchased the product, “WP Fan Pro”. It’s a WordPress theme that creates Facebook tabs.

Facebook requires that external sources of tabs are run on sites using ssl. WP Fan Pro recommended Namecheap as the source for the ssl certificate. It cost all of $1.99 for the first year. They also recommended Hostgator for the hosting.

Getting set up was fairly involved and WP Fan Pro provided an in depth pdf guide. I won’t go into all of the details here, but will describe what happened and my experiences.

When I received notification the ssl was set up I proceeded to install WordPress using Fantastico Deluxe in the Hostgator cpanel. After verifying that WordPress was properly installed and updated, the next step was to change “http” to “https”. This was done in the Admin Panel -> Settings -> General page. Once I saved the settings I needed to login again.

But surprise! My password would not work. I then went to the “Lost your Password? link and submitted the info. WordPress then sent a password reset link which got me back in.

I went through this process a few more times.

Eventually I found that I was able to reset the password to any value I chose, including the original one.

I’m not sure why this happened but was able to get past the problem.

Now, onto the installation of WP Fan Pro itself.
